“Las Terremotas” is a collection of pillow cases, hand embroidered or sewn in a unique way, created in the time of Severe earthquakes in Mexico around the 7th of September 2017. For this purpose, pieces of textile crafts were used, which our colleague Areli on her journey with a bought from hundreds of self-organized caravans of humanitarian aid in the most affected regions (click here for our blog)

These cushions are decorated with a chain stitch, which is sewn over a line pattern. Today, the craftswomen still use very old sewing machines for this technique, is always sewn diagonally and are produced with frequent color changes elaborate, three-dimensional patterns. This is the typical everyday clothing for the Zapotec woman in Oaxaca.

Textile designer Itzel Gutierrez used pure cotton to complete this collection. Each pillow features weavings by artisans from San Mateo del Mar and Juchitán, Oaxaca.
To clean the pillows we recommend hand washing in cold water with a gentle, neutral detergent. The pillow should be protected from direct sunlight, otherwise the colors may fade.
